A)      このアンケート調査は，ABC大学の学生が女性と男性の役割や生き方に関してどのような意識をもっているのか，またABC大学で性別に関わるどのような問題を体験しているのかを把握し，１人１人が性別の枠組みにとらわれず個人の能力を十分に発揮できる就学環境を整備するために行うものです。

The purpose of this survey is to understand the lifestyles and the roles of men and women as well as gender related issues at XYZ University. The survey is undertaken in an effort to create a learning environment where each person can realize their full potential regardless of gender.

B)      日本の風俗習慣には、昔のしきたりの単純に残存したもので、まかりまちがえば、有害になりかねないものも少しはある。こういう風習は、なるほど、やめるべきで、早くやめれば、やめるほど結構だが、一面古来の風俗習慣には、捨てがたく思えるものも多く、外国人の眼から見れば、まことに奇妙に見えるものでも、是非保存しておきたいものがある。こういった習慣は、今の日本の社会環境にマッチしているもので、立派に存在の理由を持っているのである。

There are some Japanese customs which are merely held by tradition and serve no worthy purpose. These customs should be abandoned as soon as possible.  On the other hand, there are many customs that seem strange to foreign eyes, but should not be relinquished.  These are the customs that match well with current Japanese society and add flavor to the Japanese way of life.
